Migrating the whole ecosystem in one move

Projects, services and documentation: end to end to the Cloud

Migrating the whole ecosystem in one move
In brief

Migrating project management, service management and the knowledge base in one coherent move avoids the hell of half-migrated environments. Here's how to run a complete transition and cleanly decommission the old world.

The problem

An Atlassian ecosystem isn't one tool but several, intertwined. Migrating one piece at a time creates periods where permissions, links and references point to two worlds — a source of confusion and security risk.

Why it's hard

The temptation is to migrate everything at once, but without validation by the owners of each project and space, you carry errors and stale access into the new environment. Conversely, decommissioning the old too quickly loses content.

The approach

Project-by-project and space-by-space migration, with permissions validated by identified owners at each step. Teams are supported through the transition. Once migration is confirmed, controlled decommissioning of the on-prem servers: cleanup, removal of attachments, removal of the database, removal of the application server.

The proof

Nimbax carried out a complete migration of this kind — project management, service management and documentation — to the cloud, with no content loss and a clean teardown of the legacy infrastructure.

Takeaway

"End to end" doesn't mean "all at once." It means one coherent plan, executed in validated pieces, all the way to decommissioning.
