Are Atlassian Server products still supported?

Accepted Answer

No. Atlassian ended support for all Server products on February 15, 2024. Since that date, Server instances no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support. If you are still running an Atlassian Server, you are exposed to unpatched vulnerabilities and must migrate to Cloud as soon as possible.

Has Atlassian announced the end of life of Data Center?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In September 2025, Atlassian announced the end of life of its Data Center products on the following schedule: (1) March 30, 2026 — end of new Data Center license sales for new customers; (2) March 30, 2028 — existing customers can no longer expand their user count, add users, or purchase new Marketplace apps; (3) March 28, 2029 — full end of life, all Data Center instances become read-only. Critical security patches will be maintained until March 2029, but no new features will be developed for Data Center. Notable exception: Bitbucket Data Center will receive a hybrid license allowing both Data Center and Cloud to be used in parallel beyond 2029.

Which Data Center products are affected by the end of life?

Accepted Answer

The affected Data Center products are: Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bamboo, Crowd, Data Center mobile apps, and all Data Center Marketplace apps. Exceptions: Bitbucket Data Center is not included (hybrid license planned) and Jira Align Data Center is not part of this end-of-life timeline.

March 30, 2026 has passed — can I still purchase a Data Center license?

If you were already a Data Center customer before March 30, 2026, you can still renew your existing license until March 30, 2028. However, you can no longer purchase new licenses, expand your user count, or add new Marketplace apps. If you were not yet a Data Center customer, the only available option is now Atlassian Cloud. What is the difference between Atlassian Cloud and Data Center?

Cloud is Atlassian's SaaS solution: no infrastructure to manage, automatic updates, billed per user per month. Data Center is the on-premises solution: you manage the infrastructure and control your data and updates. However, since Atlassian has announced the end of life of Data Center by 2029, Cloud is now the only long-term viable solution. Migration to Cloud is therefore inevitable for all organizations.

What plan tiers are available on Atlassian Cloud?

Atlassian Cloud offers four tiers: Free (up to 10 users, 2 GB storage, 3 JSM agents, community support), Standard (core features, standard support), Premium (advanced features, 99.9% SLA, 24h support), and Enterprise (multi-site, advanced SSO, 99.95% SLA, priority support, starting at 801 users). Billing is monthly or annual (approximately 17% savings annually).

Can you use Atlassian Cloud for free?

Yes, for small teams. The Free tier for Jira Software and Confluence is limited to 10 users with 2 GB of storage. For Jira Service Management, the limit is 3 agents. Free includes basic features and community support only. It is a good option for evaluating products or for very small teams.

How much does a Data Center license cost?

Data Center licenses are annual and sold in tiers starting at 500 users (smaller tiers do not exist). For example, Jira Software Data Center starts at approximately $51,000 USD per year for 500 users. A 1,000-user organization running Jira, Confluence, and JSM can expect $180,000–$240,000 USD per year in licenses alone, before infrastructure costs. Reminder: sales of new Data Center licenses ended March 30, 2026.

Why do I need to migrate to Atlassian Cloud?

Two urgent reasons: (1) If you are still on Server, support ended on February 15, 2024 — your instance receives no more security updates. (2) If you are on Data Center, Atlassian has announced full end of life for March 28, 2029. New DC license sales ended March 30, 2026, and instances will go read-only in 2029. Cloud is now the only platform Atlassian is investing in for innovation.

Duration varies based on instance size, data volume, number of projects, and third-party apps. A simple migration can be completed in a few weeks; a complex enterprise migration (multiple instances, numerous add-ons, custom integrations) can span several months.
